Hypnosis and similar concepts of “mind training” have become increasingly popular today. Many people have begun to realize how much their own attitudes and beliefs actually effect their behavior. A common attitude that we have problems with is our emotions and proper acceptance and display of them.

We desire happiness and we know that we deserve a life that is good. But how do we get it? How can we change our manipulative ways?

Emotional Release

Human beings are emotional creatures – no matter how “tough” or how “hard”, we all experience great emotion. Holding this emotion back is preventing us from growing as individuals, however releasing emotion in healthy ways will benefit us greatly.

Cry. Let it out. It will feel good and your whole body and mind will feel so much more relaxed and at ease with your being.

From experience…

I speak the advice a wise old friend gave me when I started to let my “thoughts” get the best of me. He explained how we tend to replay the same “scene” over and over again in our heads, like a movie. There’s a beginning, middle, and an end, and it’s because of this we are sabotaging ourselves the moment that “scene” starts. If our movie ends with tragedy, it will always end poorly. But if we begin to think of a happy ending, where we resolve conflicts in a positive manner, the end will be much more benefitial to us because we thought of the best possible ending – the true thoughts we wanted. Expect the worst and you will get the worst.

And quit beating yourself up.

Remember life is good and you deserve the best – don’t settle for less.

Another good point to mention is our constant name-calling we do to ourselves. “I’m not smart enough” “I’m fat” “I’m not good enough”.. if we keep repeating these thoughts to ourselves they begin to internalize and we begin to believe them. We must break this form of belief patterns as soon as possible. We so badly need a boost to our self esteem – we need to feel good about ourselves or we simply won’t feel good.

So what do we do to change the way we behave, the way we think?

Brain on hypnosis (Photo credit: Wikipedia

* Stay positive… avoid negativity whenever possible – it is hurting you more than you may think.

* Get happy, cheer up. Life could be worse.

* Develop a healthier life style. Eat well, exercise regularly, and maintain stable friendships with like-minded people. Cut the toxic friends off from your life, they are sucking the life out of you… literally.

Thoughts, Mind, Body, Behavior…

So what does this all have to do with hypnosis? Hypnosis is a method of beavior change that some people use in order to change their negative, unhealthy lifestyles and other bad habits. Through this approach they are able to rid themselves of the negative aspects of their lives.

Along with hypnosis goes the concept of Neuro-linguistic Programming or NLP.

NLP is not as complicated as it sounds, but will take some time to fully grasp as a concept. Quite simply it is the relationship between mind, body, and language. And as was mentioned earlier, our internal “self-talk” has a great influence on us, greater than we even perceive it to have. Perception is key in understanding these concepts. How do we see ourselves in the great big world around us?

The literature surrounding these topics mentioned is growing daily – you have much to learn, but it is worth it in order to live a long and healthy life. Don’t give up. Try some NLP techniques and begin your quest to a greater understanding of self. Just remember in the end the only one we will have left is ourselves.

Quit Smoking Hypnosis is real, and it can help you quit smoking without the terrible withdrawal symptoms, weight gain, nervousness and other side effects of smoking cessation. Only about 10% of addiction to cigarettes is the physical addiction to nicotine. The other 90% of smoking addiction is mental. So it only makes sense to tackle smoking addiction at the mental level, rather than just the physical level.

Smokers have a conditioned response when it comes to cigarettes. They learn over the years to relate virtually everything in their lives to cigarettes. Smoking is how they deal with stress, how they enjoy relaxing with friends, how they prepare themselves for something and how they spend their breaks and lunches. Practically everything in a smoker’s life comes to revolve around their desire for a cigarette.

Now imagine that all of that could be removed. Even if you have smoked 30 or 40 years, hypnosis can liberate you from a life of virtual slavery to cigarettes and the desire to smoke them. Hypnotherapy can tackle the problem of the desire for cigarettes and the urge to smoke. This is far more powerful than a nicotine patch or gum that merely addresses the 10% of the addiction that is physical.

Weight gain is another common problem for people who use other methods of smoking cessation. Stop smoking hypnosis can help you eliminate this problem, as well. The weight gain is due to the smoker’s need to keep their hands and mouth occupied without cigarettes. If the oral fixation, the desire and the need for the cigarettes is gone, overeating and weight gain are not a problem.

Many professional hypnotherapists address the very issue of weight gain with their patients as part of the smoking cessation therapy sessions. Just as you once began to learn to restructure your life around smoking, you will quickly learn to restructure your life in the absence of it. All of the things you worry about ñ such as how long a flight is, when the next break is, where the nearest smoking area is, how many cigarettes you have left in your pack ñ become non-issues.

With many hypnotherapy programs, you can continue to smoke until you no longer feel the urge too. You literally just quit wanting to smoke and start wanting not to smoke. Talk to your hypnotherapist and find out what his or her particular recommendations are for your quitting smoking hypnotherapy program. Each therapist has developed their own style that works well for them and their customers.

Stop Smoking Hypnosis And The Suggestible Mind

It is not necessary to meet with a hypnotherapist each week in order to quit smoking. Many hypnotherapists have developed programs that you can use in your own home. CDs, DVDs and tapes are an excellent way to benefit from hypnosis in order to quit smoking. Most people do not realize it, but they are in an Alpha brain wave pattern for three-quarters of their television watching time. People also pass through this Alpha state while falling asleep and again during the waking process each morning.

The Alpha state is a level of hypnosis. This is comforting for people who are fearful of undergoing hypnosis in order to quit smoking, lose weight or learn to relax. The state of hypnosis is something that their bodies naturally go through in a regular process each day. It is nothing mystical, religious or New Age. Dentists have begun experimenting with hypnosis to alleviate the need for pain medication during oral surgery and other dental procedures.

Stop smoking hypnosis takes advantage of the highly suggestible state of the mind during the Alpha state. During this period, the mind accepts suggestions readily, making it the perfect opportunity to introduce new, positive thoughts and eliminate old, negative ones. Hypnosis has been thoroughly researched for many years, and there are no negative side effects as long as the hypnotherapist uses ethical practices while their clients are in the suggestible state. It is the easiest, most stress-free way to stop smoking painlessly and stop smoking for good.

Hypnosis for weight loss sounds too good to be true. Although weight loss hypnosis alone cannot cause you to lose weight, you can lose much more weight on a diet and exercise program when it is combined with hypnotherapy. The hypnosis works by motivating you subconsciously to enjoy your diet and exercise routine and stick with it over the long term.

Does Hypnosis For Weight Loss Work?

In one study published by the Journal of Clinical Psychology, participants in a control group of weight loss patients who did not undergo self hypnosis weight loss, quit losing weight after the initial 9 week period, while patients who underwent weight loss hypnotherapy continued to lose weight. Though many more studies need to be conducted to determine the overall effectiveness, this and other studies show that there definitely are better results in weight loss patients who participate in hypnotherapy.

Studies also show that it does not matter what diet program you choose to use in conjunction with your hypnotherapy sessions. Dieters are more likely to stick to the plan and have better success over the long term than people who go it alone. It is important to note that not all hypnotherapists are qualified professionals. In order to be a qualified provider of hypnotherapy, a great deal of training is necessary enjoying weight loss.

The Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology published another interesting finding. Another study on hypnosis for weight loss tracked 60 women, half dieting with hypnotherapy and half dieting without the aid of hypnotherapy. The dieting group using hypnosis and weight loss lost an average of 17 pounds while the non-hypnotherapy dieters lost only one-half pound. So, using hypnosis helps weight loss patients stick to their diet and exercise program, because it aids in making the program produce better results.

Hypnosis cds For Weight Loss

If you decide that hypnotherapy is right for you, use a trained and qualified hypnotherapist. Some therapists meet with their patients one-on-one so that they can help the patient track progress. Other therapists choose to provide patients with audio tapes or CDs that the dieter can use in the privacy of their own homes. Both types of hypnotherapy can be successful, so long as you follow through with the sessions.

Hypnosis is a tool for motivating people. It has other uses in the field of psychology, such as recovering lost memories, but motivation to achieve goals, like weight loss, quitting smoking or other successes, is one of the most practical applications of hypnosis. Though many people relate self hypnosis with a stage trick, it is a real thing and has been in practice around the world for many years.

The health risks associated with obesity are severe. For many people, losing weight is critical to their survival. Other people who choose to use hypnosis for weight loss are tired of the extra weight and the embarrassment associated with it. Hypnosis therapy for weight loss is a valuable alternative for all of these people.

Hypnosis for weight loss is a healthier alternative than crash dieting, yo-yo weight gain and loss or remaining overweight. Repeated weight loss and regain is actually unhealthier than remaining heavy. This is because as we regain weight, more of it collects around our internal organs, stressing them. For dieters, the best alternative is to find a way to get the weight off in a healthy way and learn to keep it off for the rest of their lives. Hypnosis is the chosen method of weight maintenance for many people who lack the willpower to do it on their own.

Sleep Hypnosis for sleeping problems can be very effective for teaching the mind to let go of the world and allow the body to get the rest it needs. People need at least 7 hours of restful sleep in order to fight off disease, stay alert and maintain a good memory. Getting 8 hours of sleep is optimal. Hypnosis is a safe, non-habit forming alternative to over-the-counter and prescription sleep aids, which are often addictive.

If you chronically have problems sleeping, the first thing you should do is visit your doctor. Sometimes illness and disease are the underlying cause of sleep disorders. Once any medical problems have been ruled out, you can treat your sleep problems with hypnosis and other safe alternatives to medicine.

There are a few simple self-hypnosis techniques you can find for free on the Internet. For many people, these work just fine to help them relax and fall asleep. If you have other issues bothering you that are preventing you from falling asleep, the aid of a hypnotherapist may be necessary. Many of these therapists see their patients on an individual basis, and some have developed audio or video CDs or DVDs that are helpful for getting better sleep.

Try This Sleep Hypnosis Technique :

There are a few other things you can try that may help you fall asleep and get the rest you need:

Develop a nightly routine and follow it every night.

Avoid artificial blue light for at least 30 minutes before bedtime. This includes cell phone screens, computer screens, televisions and other electronic devices.

Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning.

Avoid naps until you have established a regular sleeping routine.

Keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature.

Avoid noise at night, such as a radio or TV. If you need to drown out the noises of others, use white noise or a sound machine.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine.

Eat well and get enough exercise.

Hypnosis can help you learn to clear your mind, and it is an effective treatment for getting to the heart of things that are bothering you. If you have tried everything and still are unable to get the sleep you need to function and be healthy, a trained professional hypnotherapist can be a great solution. Hypnosis is not unlike sleep. In fact, hypnosis is a mental state known as Alpha. You pass through this state naturally as you fall asleep and wake up.

You are also in an Alpha state 75% of the time that you are watching television. Hypnosis is far from unnatural or mythical; it is a natural state of mind for you to be in part of the time. During this state, the mind is more suggestible than when you are fully awake and alert. If you are hearing positive messages during this suggestible state, your mind will hold on to positive thoughts.
Trained, professional hypnotherapists can also address negative thoughts during hypnosis sessions. Teaching the mind to let go of these negative thoughts and feelings often frees the mind to relax and allow itself to achieve peaceful, restful sleep.

What Happens When I Don’t Get Enough Sleep?

Sleep loss and the health risks associated with it can actually be very serious. There are both short-term and long-term effects from lack of sleep. On the upside, there are ways to get the sleep you need without taking medications that may have serious side effects or be addictive.

The short-term effects from not getting enough sleep include:

Decreased performance

Lack of alertness

Memory problems

Cognitive impairment

Relationship problems

Lower quality of life

On-the-job injuries

Automobile accidents

When you have a sleep deficit, your performance on the job suffers. You are not as alert, it is difficult to be creative and you are more irritable and easier to agitate. It is harder to remember things that happened earlier in the day or week. The symptoms multiply and gain severity as your sleep deficit increases.

If the problems continue, they can damage your relationships with your partner, co-workers, children, boss and friends. You do not feel like doing the things you enjoy, so you have less quality of life. You may skip movies, dinner out, sports and other hobbies and activities that help keep your mind sharp and your body fit.

Sleep deprivation is a leading cause of automobile accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 100,000 accidents per year can be attributed to drowsy driving. 1,550 people die each year as a result, and it costs about $12.5 billion dollars in damages. Not getting enough sleep is a serious issue for Americans. Work-related injuries increase just as traffic accidents do.

The long-term effects of sleep deprivation are even more frightening:

High blood pressure

Heart attack

Heart failure

Stroke

Obesity

Psychiatric problems/Mental impairment

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)

Growth retardation in newborns and children

Sleep loss and health risks of it can lead to death. A sleep deficit can occur from one night’s sleep loss, but serious health problems are the result of weeks, months or years of not getting enough sleep. It is important to dedicate 7 to 8 hours each night to sleeping.

If you are not able to fall asleep on your own, there are ways to get help without taking drugs. First, begin going to bed at a reasonable hour each night, and make it the same time every night. Sometimes sleep problems occur from going to bed at irregular hours, throwing off your body’s internal sleep clock.

Make your room nice and dark and keep it at a comfortable temperature. Avoid the light of computer screens, television sets, cell phones and other electronics for 30 minutes before bed. Lower the lights about this time so that your body senses sleep is near. Soft music, reading and a few gentle stretching exercises can help relax you before bed.

If you feel that some of your sleep problems are due to an inability to let go of things, write a to-do list before going to bed. As you jot down your tasks for the next day, visualize yourself letting go of these things until time to do them tomorrow. This will free your mind of worries about forgetting something or not having time for an important task. Once you have your plans made, let go of them until the next day.

To get enough sleep, try these tried-and-true methods:

Use sleep hypnosis, meditation or relaxation methods to prepare your body for sleep.

Aroma therapy also helps induce relaxation and sleep.

Get enough exercise so that your body is tired at bedtime.

See your doctor to make sure there are no underlying causes for your sleep problems.

Sleep loss and health risks of the problem are a serious issue for Americans. As our work days get longer, we need more time to play, relax and complete tasks in and around the home. All of these activities have taken a chunk out of our sleep time, and we are paying the price. Our health is worse, our relationships are worse and our quality of life is lower. Stop this problem for yourself and live a longer, healthier life because of it.

The mind of the smoker is then conditioned that this is not so and that the bad habit can be licked without any negative reaction from the body – if the person wills it. Also, take note that covert hypnosis is a type of hypnosis chicago which is known as one’s ability to enter into the subconscious mind of another person without that person having the slightest idea that something extraordinary is happening. I can never lose weight”, “It’s impossible for me to walk up those steps”, thoughts like these stops us from the process of losing weight. Shy bladder hypnosis is a comparative bargain by this standard, considering that a self-hypnosis tape could go for as little as $5. Usually, you need another person or an outsider to help you fill in the questionnaire to tell you upfront what they really think about you, because at some point, you’re not going be full honest with yourself.

Paint.Net for those of you that want to create graphics for free and BitComet for the people that want an excellent torrent program. However, even these people will wake up at the end of a session.Your hearing acts like a surveillance camera, which stays alert to protect both you and your offspring. An expert Comedy Hypnotists will offer you the best of clean and organized fun and comedy entertainment that’s best in class. When we see pre-surgical clients in our hypnosis apply, we give them a CD to play just before and right away following surgical treatment (and with headphones for the duration of surgery, if their surgeon permits). You will chew your food slowly enjoying the taste, the feeling of the food in your mouth totally and completely before you swallow.

Whether you’ve tried everything in the book or are looking for something interesting, hypnosis to quit smoking may be an answer. Quite a few enterprise proprietors and sales qualified commit the vast majority of their time conversing to prospective customers. If you’ve ever been in the “zone” where you are totally focused on the task at hand and nothing else, you’ve been in hypnosis. The more you relieve stress in this way the more likely it is to develop into a habit and then eventually OCD. When you want to ask your parents to buy you a new pair of shoes, question like -will you buy me a new pair of shoes?- will just give them an option to say no.

Our society is one that places too much emphasis on beauty and not nearly enough on our health. While looking good is a good reason to want to slim down, there are far more critical reasons you need to be aware of.

Overweight people are far more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes. In this condition, blood sugar levels are abnormally elevated. Medication and injections are often necessary to control the disease. Type 2 diabetics are unable to heal properly, often leading to the amputation of limbs. Diabetes also leads to heart disease, stroke and blindness. In 2002, diabetes was listed as the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.

In coronary heart disease, the heart function and blood flow are inadequate. Arteries harden and narrow. Coronary heart disease can lead to heart attack, heart failure, chest pains and abnormal heart rhythm. This disease is the single leading cause of death in the United States.

A stroke is literally brain cell death due to restricted blood flow in the brain. A mild stroke can cause slurred speech, dizziness and loss of muscle tone and mobility on one side of the body. A severe stroke can be fatal. Strokes are the United States’ third largest killer.

Metabolic syndrome is a series of related conditions. It is diagnosed when a person has a large waistline, high triglycerides, low HDL (good cholesterol), high blood pressure and high blood sugar. Metabolic syndrome sufferers are twice as likely as their thinner peers to contract coronary artery disease and five times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes.

Certain types of cancer are more common in obese patients. Cancer of the colon, esophagus and kidneys are more likely to occur in patients with obesity. Obese women also contract cancer of the uterus and breasts more often than thinner people. Cancer is a growth of abnormal cells that can spread to other parts of the body. The prognosis of cancer patients depends on the type and severity of the cancer, but cancer is the second largest cause of death in the United States.

The condition of sleep apnea is almost universal in obese patients. Sleep apnea patients quit breathing for a few seconds at a time many times during the night. This causes sleepiness the next day, trouble concentrating and even possible heart failure. CPAP machines can reduce the symptoms of sleep apnea, but losing weight is the best way to avoid this dangerous disorder.

The health risks of being overweight also include osteoarthritis. In osteoarthritis, bone and cartilage of the joints wears away. The pain is caused from inflammation and bone rubbing against bone in the joint. It is most common in the knees, followed by the hips and lower back. The pressure of a person’s body weight wears on the joints of the body over time, weakening them and leaving the patient susceptible to osteoarthritis. This is a very painful condition, and there is no cure.Another good reason to aks yourself Am I Overweight?

Gall bladder disease is marked by frequent gall stones, inflammation of the gall bladder or infections of the gall bladder. All of these conditions are painful, and the pain ranges from dull to sharp. In some cases, removal of the gall bladder is necessary. Though reaching and maintaining a healthy weight reduces the chance and severity of gall bladder disease, the weight loss should be gradual. Fast weight loss from an unhealthy crash diet can increase the chance of developing gall stones.

When fat cells build up in the liver, they cause damage that leads to fatty liver disease. This disease, in turn, can lead to cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is the build-up of scar tissue that blocks the blood flow in the liver. Eventually, this can lead to liver failure. Though commonly associated with alcoholism, obesity causes the same damage and results to the liver as a lifetime of heavy drinking.

Obese patients have more pregnancy complications than thinner people. It is often difficult or impossible for them to conceive children, they have a greater incidence of gestational diabetes, they have more risk of preeclampsia (high blood pressure that threatens the life of the mother and the baby), more risk of having to have a C-section and a greater chance of having complications during the C-section.

Clearly, the obesity risks are severe. The good news is, there are things you can do to lose weight and become a healthier person. First, choose a healthy diet plan or ask your doctor for one. The diet should include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, small portions of lean meats for protein and some wheat and grains. Then get your doctor’s approval for some good heart-healthy exercise, such as daily walks, swimming and time on an exercise bike.Take charge of your stress relief.

Next, find a way to stay motivated on your diet. Support groups are available to help people trying to lose weight. Hypnosis has worked for many struggling dieters. Make sure your family and friends are willing to help you and not sabotage your plans. Finally, mark your successes regularly and celebrate them in a way that does not involve food and eating. Treat yourself to a new outfit or a fun day trip. The risks for being overweight are not worth a temporary satisfaction of eating unhealthy foods.

I want to talk about the misconceptions of hypnosis. This is so important. As a professional hypnotist, I use these techniques all the time on people successfully over and over again, and in my own life; and I wonder why more people arent using these techniques.

Its completely natural. Its healthy. Its quick. Its permanent, and it makes me wonder why
more people arent using it. And what I’ve come up with is that there are just so many
misconceptions, and I mean completely wrong misconceptions about hypnosis that, I think, stop
people from ever really exploring it.

So, what I want to do is take you through some of the most common ones and eliminate them so that
you can really jump into this subject completely without any worry of any of these things being
true because if they were true, you should be worried, right? But they’re not.

Now, the first one is that hypnosis is sleep, and it is not. And it is crucial to understand what
hypnosis is because if hypnosis was just putting someone into a deep sleep imagine yourself,
you’re in a deep sleep, and someones standing over you giving you positive suggestions, how much
difference would it make? None. Because its just like talking to a wall and you’re not
responding to it. That’s not what hypnosis is.

And, again, this is essential to really understanding how powerful hypnosis really is because
hypnosis theres a wake, there’s a sleep, and hypnosis is kind of right in the middle utilizing
the best of each of these states. Its one of the only things it does. This is what makes it so
powerful.

We’re using your conscious ability to choose the right directions. For example, you know what
foods to eat; you know what foods you should eat in order to get the body you want.

And there’s the unconscious part where its your vivid imagination. So, for example I use this a
lot. If you think about when you’re falling asleep that sensation of actually falling, if you’ve
ever felt that, that’s a hypnotic state. You’re not actually falling, yet it feels as if its
really happening. Well, that’s really powerful.

You see, because instead of thinking, Oh, I should eat that food, now what we can do is add these
visceral, emotional responses to the desired action. And thats what hypnosis is. We want to use
this state because its so powerful to intentionally do things we want to do.
But its not sleep, right? Now, sometimes, you’ll hear a hypnotist say, Sleep, or theyll say it
over and over again. But that’s a hypnotic sleep. Its not traditional, unconscious sleep.
That’s very important to understand.

The next thing that I think that kind of draws out of that is that you’ll lose control in hypnosis,
and this is completely untrue. If anything, you have more control in hypnosis because you’re more
focused. You become more aware.

You think about it right now. You listen as there are all these distractions going on around you.
In hypnosis, usually your eyes are closed and you’re very focus, and it frees up your awareness.
You’ll not do something that you don’t want to do.

So, if I had someone in a deep, deep trance, and I said, Now, you’re going to go out and steal
that old ladys purse and bring it back to me, the person would either not move, but more likely
what happens is they would come out of trance because some part of them would say its ridiculous,
you know, watch out, red flag, you know.

So, as you’re in hypnosis and suggestions are given, youre accepting or rejecting them as you go
along. And so, you always have that ability no matter what. No matter how deep a trance you go
into, you always have the ability to say yes or no to whatever is being said or asked of you. This
is essential because if in the back of your mind, if you’re thinking, I’m going to lose total
control, then you’re not going to allow yourself to go into that state of hypnosis.

But I’m here to tell you that and, again, you’ll recognize this. If you’ve ever been in hypnosis
and when you go into a state of self-hypnosis, you will realize right away that you’re aware of
whats going on. So, its very, very important. You’re in complete control all the time when
you’re in hypnosis.

This ones important because for a lot of people, they shut the door before they ever even get to
explore hypnosis; and its hypnosis and religion. Is hypnosis against my religion? And all I can
offer you on this one is this. Hypnosis is completely and totally natural. As a matter of fact,
you have experienced the hypnotic state thousands and millions of times in your life.

You pass through a state of hypnosis every time you wake up and go to sleep, when you’ve been
driving along roads on the highway, when you’ve been in a class that was really boring and you were
just daydreaming out the window. Those are all hypnotic states.
So, to say that hypnosis is something from the devil or its something supernatural is untrue
because but what I’m saying is this. Its something that you can’t avoid. Itll be like saying,
you know, breathing is against my religion. You couldnt say it because everyone has to breathe.
Well, everyone goes in and out of hypnotic states.

So, the question is, how are you using it? And I think you very quickly realize when you start
experiencing hypnosis that it feels very natural.

The two things I would always hear the most when I would hypnotize people for the first time that
they’ve ever been hypnotized they would always say two things.

First, they would come out and they would say, That’s not what I was expecting, because they were
expecting that they’re going to totally zone out not lose control but not be aware of anything
that was happening. And then they come out and say, You know, I heard you the entire time. I
heard everything you said.

And the other thing they would say is that it felt very natural, it felt like I’d experience it
before. And that’s because it is. Its a very natural state that you have experienced before. The
difference with hypnosis is that we’re using it intentionally. And so because its so natural, I
don’t see how it could be against a religion. There’s no dogma to it. Its just something that
people do, anyways.

The next one is not everyone can be hypnotized. While its true that there’s a very, very small
percentage of people who can’t be hypnotized, its usually because they either have extremely low
IQ or they had some sort of brain damage. Other than that then, again, to the situation where,
certainly, some people can go on hypnosis immediately very, very deeply; and then some people have
a harder time with it.

But if you start thinking of it as a process, its not “I can be hypnotized or I can’t.” Everyone
has the ability and experiences it naturally, anyways. Sometimes you just have to work with it a
little bit. And that was my case, and a lot of it was because I didn’t really realize that you
could actually go deeper and deeper into hypnosis.

Think of it this way. Hypnosis is actually, scientifically and this goes back to the religion a
little bit. If you track a brain in hypnosis, it looks the same as a brain in meditation, and as
the brain wave patterns in deep prayer. So, when you’re in these deep states of hypnosis, its
completely and totally natural, and its very similar to these other experiences that people
usually have.

But this is the thing. No one says that they can’t meditate. They might say its very difficult
for them, but they realize its a process and you can get better and better at it.

The beauty of hypnosis is this, though, that when you go into hypnosis and you go a little deeper,
the next time you go into hypnosis again, you usually start from that level. Its very similar to
again, people would say that once you learn to ride, you know how to do it. Think about it.
When you ride a bike, youre not doing it mentally. Your body somehow knows how to do it.

Well, hypnosis is the same thing. Your body learns how to do it, and once your body understands
and experiences it, it can pretty much do an autopilot. So, again, everyone can be hypnotized
pretty much, and for the people who have difficulty with it initially, just relax, and work with it
a little bit, and you’ll find that you go deeper and deeper into it.

The next one common is that you can get stuck in hypnosis. You can’t get stuck in hypnosis. What
would happen if you got put into a deep trance, and then the hypnotist got up and left is that
you would fall into sleep? Remember, there’s a wake, sleep hypnosis, and the middle. You would
fall into sleep, and youd come out of it, and wake up when you woke up. So, getting stuck in
hypnosis is like saying you’re going to get stuck in sleep. You cant. At some point, you just
wake up.

On the other hand, the effects and the suggestions that you’re given in hypnosis, that you give
yourself, those can last long term. That’s why we’re doing all this because we want to influence
our behavior, our thoughts, and our thinking.

And finally, this is understandable and its important to put this one to rest. Its that you’ll
reveal deep secrets, and this completely and totally untrue. Again, going back to before, you’re
in complete control the whole time. And, if anything, you become even more aware that you didn’t
want to reveal a secret.

Let me explain one of the ways that people experience hypnosis sometimes its almost like
having one or two alcohol drinks in the sense that it relaxes you, maybe. Maybe you talk a little
bit more. Your inhibitions go down a little bit.
Sometimes, hypnosis can feel a little bit like this in the sense that you’re relaxing your body,
you’re relaxing your mind, and sometimes, that can feel really nice, and you just start to feel
more comfortable, and you might open up a bit more.

So, in that sense, you might reveal a little bit more than you normally would but you’re not going
to give up your bank account number or pin. You’re not going to give some deep secret that you
want to keep. You always have that ability to keep those under wraps. Hypnosis does not change
that.

So, you can rest easy. That’s the point of this. I want you to feel comfortable and good that
hypnosis is completely safe and completely natural. Its going to feel very common because you’ve
experienced a state like that very often, and you can really magnify the results you want with
this.

Now, one thing I have to say. I have to make a quick disclaimer here. Although I say you don’t
lose control in hypnosis, you can be influenced. In hypnosis training, they’ll tell hypnotists to
say, You can’t be hypnotized against your will. And while this is technically true, you cant.
You cannot be hypnotized and do something you don’t want to do, absolutely.

The wiggle room is this. What is it that you want to do? Your will is based upon beliefs and these
foundations of thoughts that can be manipulated. I tell you this because throughout this program,
you’re going to learn when that’s being done to you, how to protect yourself, and how to do that to
others in a positive way.

But the point is that that doing hypnosis, you are aware of whats going on and you can feel
comfortable experimenting and playing with it because, as I said, if someones going to begin
shifting your will, its usually a long-term process. That’s why I say that so you can go see a
hypnotist and feel completely comfortable that nothings going to happen, that its not right
because you are aware and you are safe.

So, I hope you enjoyed this, and I hope it frees you up to really jump into the subjects. Listen.
If you have been already, begin listening to the calls that we’re doing because we’re going to go
deeper into some of the misconceptions of hypnosis and exactly what hypnosis is.

So, have a great week, and I’ll talk to you all next week.

But did you know that it can be used in many other applications including gaining a stronghold in conversations and possibly affecting the outcome? It’s called conversational hypnosis and it has been utilised in advertising for ages, and is quickly working its way into many other realms of everyday life. After reading this article you should have a firm grasp as to what conversational hypnosis is, and ways to implement it into conversations to achieve your desired goals.

The basis of conversational hypnosis is quite simple and the reason it works actually makes a lot of sense. It’s rooted in the fact that you can only think of one thing at time. This means that if you can distract someone from something for whatever reason, then this gives you the opportunity to refocus their attention onto whatever you suggest.

Of course you can only take this principal so far, I doubt you’ll be able to suggest to someone to cut you a check for the entire balance of their bank account. But if it’s an issue within reason, or something they’re not entirely sure of, then they’re wide open for suggestion. Like anything of this sort you have the power to do good or evil, so keep your karma in mind when planning on utilising conversational hypnosis.

The first step to implementing conversational hypnosis is to build rapport with the individual. If you’re trying to help someone overcome a fear then this is the time where you relate to them and make them feel like you know what they’re going through and that it’s totally normal. This builds trust between you and the individual and leaves them wide open for suggesting a solution.

Step two in conversational hypnosis is to distract them from the problem you were just discussing. This can be done by asking them a question that is similar to their fear but not related to their fear entirely. For example, if a person has a fear of public speaking you can ask something like what would it feel like to be mute and not be able to express what you’re thinking and feeling through language. This should sufficiently distract them from the fear and open them up for a solution.

The final step in this application of conversational hypnosis is to provide the solution. For our fear example you could suggest how great it would feel to get up in front of a group and express your ideas and opinions. This step is entirely dependent on the outcome of the problem so there’s going to be an array of different solutions.

It’s important to note that conversational hypnosis doesn’t apply just to conquering fears, you can use it in just about any sort of interaction that’s dependent on ideas and problem solving. For instance, if you’re trying to convince your boss that it’s time for a raise then this would be another great place to implement the techniques discussed above.

Once again I have to stress the importance of using conversational hypnosis in an ethical and just manner. There are many people out there who are naive and easily swayed, and you just might find someone who’s willing to cut that check for the balance of their bank account. If conversational hypnosis is used in a productive and ethical way, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t become an integral part of conversation and our daily interactions.

This is the first lesson and I want to talk about what is hypnosis because throughout this program,
you’re going to learn how to use hypnosis on yourself to change any behavior and to really achieve
the things you want to achieve.

You’re also going to learn how to use hypnosis on other people. In my opinion as a professional
hypnotist, its one of the most powerful systems out there for really being able to persuade and
influence people, and to be able to persuade and influence yourself.

And so, each week, you’re going to get a video lesson where you’re going to learn a different
aspect of hypnosis and how to use it in your life. And that being said, that’s what I want to lead
into, what is hypnosis? Because you can ask a hundred different hypnotists what is hypnosis and
you’re going to get a different answer from each one.

The most accepted definition of hypnosis is a bypassing of the critical faculty going straight to
the unconscious mind. But in order to really understand hypnosis, we need to understand our minds,
and a lot of times, we don’t get this explanation.

So very simply, the hypnotic understanding of how our mind works is that we have a conscious mind
and we have an unconscious mind. And the conscious part of our mind is the one that we are used to
thinking with. When we think about logic, when we think about reasons, when we think about
willpower, we’re talking about the conscious mind. And the conscious mind is very useful in a lot
of situations but is not whats running the show.

The unconscious part of our mind is truly the engine for our existence. It not only handles
automatic things like breathing and body temperature, things we’ve done since before we were even
born, but in this course, whats more important is that it runs our habits. It runs our behaviors,
and a lot of it is without us even knowing.

So, for example, if you think about a behavior like reading and writing, something you did not know
how to do when you were born, you learned how to do it when you were younger. Then, at some point,
you just knew how to do it; and then, you never had to think about it again.
If you think about when you read and write, you don’t even know how you’re doing it. You just know
that you’re able to do it. And so, this is the beauty of our minds, that once we understand
something completely, we just do it automatically.

And so, this is what we’re going to refer to. Its the unconscious mind, the part of our mind that
does things automatically for us. And we’re going to focus a lot on the unconscious mind in this
program so that you can learn how to influence it.

You know, I work a lot with weight loss; and if you look at your eating behaviors, you eat the same
foods, right? When you go to the restaurant, you order the same things. You have the same
habitual patterns and you don’t need to think about them. You just do them. And this is the real
power of the unconscious mind; its pattern oriented. It learns something and it does it.

Now, the important thing to understand is that the unconscious mind operates differently than the
conscious mind. The conscious mind is very rational, and so we use the food example. You know what
foods are good for you and what foods are bad for you. But that doesn’t mean that that’s what
you’re going to eat because then you have these desires, these cravings, and a lot of those are
designed and developed in the unconscious mind.

And so, throughout this program, we’re going to learn how to influence your unconscious mind and
the unconscious minds of the people around you because this is how you can begin to influence
yourself and others in a very, very powerful way.

So, a few things about the unconscious mind. Its not logical. It has its own logic, and to
explain this, I want to refer to Pavlovs dogs. Pavlov was a Russian scientist who worked with
dogs studying their digestive tracts, and he came up with an experiment where he would put food in
front of a dog and it would salivate naturally. And at the exact same time, he would ring a bell,
and he would do this over and over and over again. And, eventually, what happened is he could just
ring the bell and the dog would begin to salivate regardless if there’s food there or not.

So, what that taught us about our minds is that our unconscious minds operates through associative
conditioning where we can link things up that have nothing naturally that have to do together. So,
the bell has nothing to do with making a dog salivate or food. If you link them up enough times,
our minds start to link them up together.
So, this is one of the most important things to understand about the unconscious mind. It is that
even if something doesn’t make sense so, the bell doesn’t logically have anything to do with the
food, yet it still elicits that response.

So, that’s how we need to begin thinking of the unconscious mind, that it doesn’t understand the
world rationally and logically, and understands a lot of it through connections and associations.
And so, sometimes those associations can make a lot of sense and be useful for us; and sometimes,
they can be harmful.

If we go back to the food analogy, you can know maybe that ice cream is bad for you and not going
to help you achieve the results you want. But on an unconscious level, you have a real strong
connection of pleasure and a lot of emotional connections, pleasurable ones to it. And so, that
drives you to it. That creates those cravings that are ultimately going to win.

And that’s important to remember. Between the conscious and the unconscious mind, the unconscious
mind is infinitely more powerful.

You think of all the things that you know how to do that you never have to think about, as we
mentioned, reading and writing. There’s driving your car, there’s walking, there’s making your
breakfast in the morning, there’s getting dressed, there’s taking a shower, brushing your teeth,
right?

The habits and behaviors that you have become patterns; and once you learn them, you basically just
keep repeating them over and over again. When you want to change those, how do you do it?

Well, most people try to consciously change that, and its very difficult. So, what we’re going to
do is we’re going to influence unconscious minds so that changes happen naturally within ourselves
and with others.

And to give you an example of how powerful the unconscious mind is and how limited the conscious
mind is, imagine if you had to consciously keep yourself breathing. How long can you do it for,
right? It would take a lot of effort. You would get distracted. The conscious mind gets
distracted very easily. The unconscious mind can handle many, many things all at once.

So, throughout this program, we’re really going to learn all the different ways to influence
because the unconscious mind has a different mode of communication. It doesn’t work
through logic, and words, and reason. That’s what a lot of times people do, right? They want to
start eating in a different way. What do they do? They tell themselves over and over again all
the bad things about the foods they like, and how well does that work?

So, you’re going to learn how to truly influence yourself in a way where the changes become
profound and become permanent. And so, the first thing I want to explain to you is that you are
already a hypnotist. You’re already hypnotizing yourself, and that’s what I want to prove to you
throughout these monthly programs, that you are constantly talking to yourself. You’re constantly
imagining certain things and focusing on certain things that are causing you to feel a certain way
and behave a certain way.

And its my goal to teach you to become aware of this and to take control of it so you can begin to
get the results in your life that you want. And I promise you … I can tell you from my own life
and thousands of people whom I’ve worked with that it is a much more effective and rewarding way to
make it happen.

This is not about willpower. Its not about struggling and forcing yourself through things. Its
about using your mind the way that it was meant to be used.

So, what is hypnosis? Hypnosis is this ability to influence and communicate with the unconscious
mind. And so, we’re going to do that in a different way. We’re not just going to use logic, and
reason, and force. We’re going to use a very elegant system that we call hypnosis, and that’s
hypnosis is.

Its a system. Its a structure of being able to communicate with this most powerful part of our
minds. And when you tap into that, you tap into the real power that you have between your ears,
and it makes things much, much easier. And when it doesn’t work, when you don’t get the changes
you want, you have a way of understanding it.

Its not just about, Oh, I guess I’m just a jerk, or I guess I’m too stupid to change, or I
guess I just the want to, I’m too lazy. And you’re going to start to really recognize what you’ve
been doing to yourself, how you’ve been hypnotizing yourself.

And you’re going to find out that that’s what you’ve been doing. You have beliefs and you have
things you say to yourself regularly for your whole life that you don’t even realize you’ve been
saying; and that is the reason that you’ve been getting the results that you’ve been getting.
So, the first thing you’re going to get is I’m going to send you a bonus lesson to get you started.
We’re going to show you how to make your own self-hypnosis session, and you don’t even need to
know anything about hypnosis in order to make this. We’re going to make it very, very simple
because we’re going to start off with talking to yourself in a new way. And you’re going to find
that this alone begins to change your thinking in a very natural and automatic way.

So, you just follow the lesson and learn how to make this and do it; and as you listen to it,
you’re going to find that your beliefs and thoughts are shifting and changing naturally and
automatically.

So, thank you very much for joining this program. Enjoy the interviews. You’re going to learn a
lot. One of the questions I always asked the people I interviewed was what is hypnosis? And
you’re going to hear slightly different answers from each person; and as you keep hearing them,
you’re going to form your own understanding of what hypnosis is. And you’re going to be able to
use this powerful, powerful system to begin to create the changes that you want in your life.

So, please, listen to those interviews and enjoy them because they are a wealth of information.
We’ve got some of the best hypnotists in the world to get on these calls. And so, you’re going to
learn a lot in every single call.

And the other flipside of that is to watch these lessons and participate in them. Follow through
on the exercises that are included in some of the lessons. Do the bonuses because as you
experience this that’s the key thing.

The unconscious mind is influenced when it is experiencing things. Unconscious learning is like
when you were learning how to drive a car, when you were learning how to ride a bike, when you were
learning how to write.

Understand that difference. You were actually doing what your body was involved in
something and you were learning it completely. So that eventually, at some point, you could just
do it naturally and automatically. As opposed to theoretical learning, Oh, I get that. I
understand that.

That’s conscious learning. What we’re going to understand here and master is unconscious learning
so you can really, really master this stuff and begin to use it everyday of your life.

There are many similarities between hypnosis and conventional meditation techniques. Like meditation, hypnosis involves entering a deep state of relaxation and attaining a state of one pointed concentration. In this article we’ll discuss these similarities in a little more detail and then talk about how one can be an effective tool for improving your performance and effectiveness in the other.

The first parallel between hypnosis and mediation that you’ll notice is that they both involve a deep state of relaxation. This state of relaxation can be achieved in several different ways but the most common is to concentrate on your breathing. Basically what you want to do is take in deep abdominal breaths and concentrate on the rise and fall of your chest. This is an integral part of almost all meditation practices and is used to develop one pointed concentration.

The next parallel between hypnosis and meditation is the use of one pointed concentration to focus in on a specific topic. This is basically the ability to concentrate on one thing without being bombarded with an array of thoughts. When you sit down for the first time and actually assess your mental continuum you’ll quickly find that you have literally thousands of different thoughts popping in and out of your head throughout the day. It’s extremely difficult to get a stronghold on the mind but once you do, one pointed concentration will benefit you in every aspect of life.

Some common techniques for developing one pointed concentration in addition to watching the breath is to look at a picture or an object and focus on it with all your concentration. Each time a thought pops into your head acknowledge it but don’t pursue it any further. With practice your thoughts will fade away and becoming few and far between. This is one of the most important parallels between hypnosis and meditation as it grants you the ability to do the necessary internal work.

Once you have improved your concentration you’re onto the next similarity between hypnosis and meditation, which is visualization. In both hypnosis and meditation you use visualizations to work on aspects of your conscious and unconscious mind, as well as bring on a desired emotional state.

For example, if you’re trying to conquer your fear of water then you could do a visualization where you go for a swim or dive into a pool. Since you’ve developed one pointed concentration the experience of swimming in real life or in your mind will bring about much of the same feelings. So if you desensitize yourself to the experience you’ll be much more likely to conquer your fear of swimming.

As you can see the similarities between hypnosis and meditation are numerous. Either one you choose to partake in will improve your performance in the other as they’re both based on the same principals. Hypnosis and meditation are both great ways to conquer your fears, gain confidence and work to improve the overall quality of life. So if you’re looking for a cheap way to improve yourself and your state of mind then look no further because meditation and hypnosis provide a cheap and effective solution.

It can be difficult in today’s society to progress with so many people vying for the same positions. It would be extremely useful to have the ability to coax anyone into doing just about anything you want wouldn’t it? Well luckily for us there’s the art of hypnosis for persuasion. If you can master just a few easy steps you’ll have a stronghold over any type of interaction and you’ll have people practically eating from your hand. In this article we’ll go over some basic techniques that will allow you to start using hypnosis for persuasion and take back control over your life.

Persuasion is usually defined as the ability to convince somebody to do something. So you can see just how powerful this ability would be if you could master it. Hypnosis for persuasion is a vast topic but I’ll present you with the basics so you can start practicing immediately after completing this article. First things first, you’ve got to build rapport with your subject.

This means that you have to be confident in yourself so that the subject trusts you and feels safe confiding in you. If you’re fumbling with your words and not getting your point across clearly then there’s just no way that you’ll be able to direct the conversation. So if you have a bit of social anxiety then that’s probably going to be your first task to overcome. The entire basis of hypnosis for persuasion rests on building rapport with the subject so you’ve got to be able to take control over the situation.

Once you feel you’ve made a connection with the subject and they seem to trust you, you’re ready to move onto the visualization. This part can be difficult when starting to use hypnosis for persuasion but once you get it you’ve basically mastered the art. What you do is paint a clear and desirable picture for the person you’re acting on. If for example you’re in sales, then you’ve got to paint a realistic picture of your client using the product and loving it.

The reason why the visualization works so well is because of the trust you built in step one. If the client doesn’t fully trust you and care about what you have to say then your visualization will be greatly hindered. But as long as the subject feels that you’re someone they can identify with, hypnosis for persuasion will work every time.

The final step is the suggestion. If you’ve implemented steps one and two properly and efficiently then this won’t be a problem at all. Basically all you do is suggest the desired outcome. In fact, the sign of a master of hypnosis for persuasion won’t even have to suggest the outcome; the client will do it for them. If though the client still doesn’t feel they need the suggestion then you’ve got to stay persistent and subtly go back to the visualization over even rapport building steps to win them over.

Hypnosis for persuasion is that easy. Of course, there are more advanced topics that build on these out there that utilise body language and sleight of mouth, but for a beginner this is a great place to start. Remember, it takes practice, so don’t get down on yourself if you don’t get it the first couple times you try it. If you stay persistent, hypnosis for persuasion will definitely become an integral part of your daily interaction.

Why are professional athletes able to perform so well on a consistent basis? It’s because they’re so familiar with their sport and have put in so much time that wherever or whenever they compete they’re focused and are ready for whatever the environment throws at them. A great way to attain this ability is by utilising hypnosis for sports. You’ll build your concentration and desensitize yourself to situations where you typically feel nervous so you’ll be able to compete in any extreme. In this article we’ll go over the principals of hypnosis for sports and discuss why it’s effective, and how you can implement it to become a better athlete.

The basis of hypnosis for sports is quite simple, you’re going to gain control over your mind and then present hypothetical situations to it so that you’re prepared if they ever arise. A good example of this if you were a basketball player would be to imagine shooting foul shots with the entire crowd booing you. First though you’ve got to do some mind training so that the visualizations will be effective.

So first you want to find a place that’s comfortable and free from any distractions. Once you’re comfortable I want you to close your eyes and pay attention to your breathing. Try and stay focused on the rise and fall of the chest and the feeling of the air entering your lungs. You’ll quickly find that your mind is constantly bombarded with thoughts. The key here is to acknowledge the thoughts but let them go, don’t pursue them any further. This is the key aspect of hypnosis for sports as it allows you to gain control over your mind, so you’re going to want to practice it until your thoughts become few and far between.

Once you’re fully relaxed and your thoughts have slowed down you’re ready for the visualization. This is obviously going to vary for each sport and the circumstance that you’re performing the hypnosis in but to demonstrate we’ll use football. Let’s say you’ve got a big game later this evening and you’re feeling quite nervous. A great visualization to implement would be one where you catch the winning pass or making a game saving play. Performing this kind of hypnosis for sports visualization will calm the nerves and allow you to focus your attention on actually doing what you played over in your mind with your visualization.

Another useful visualization used in hypnosis for sports would be to imagine all the negative things that you’re nervous about before the game. This may seem counterproductive but if you desensitise yourself to these sorts of things then you won’t be as worried about committing them and you’ll be able to focus more on the game.

So to summarize, the most important aspect of hypnosis for sports is to enter a state of deep relaxation where you’ve gained full control over the mind. This will allow you to focus one pointedly on anything you choose, and allow you to call up any emotion you desire. If you still feel nervous or you want to desensitise yourself to something that could go wrong you can try a visualization.

Hypnosis for sports is that easy, and you can literally start to see effects in just a few days of practicing. The best part of all is that it will stick with you for life. Hypnosis for sports teaches principals that affect you at the core of your being, so if you master them you’re sure to improve in not just sports, but every aspect of life.

This is likely a product of a very impersonal society that often leaves you feeling ordinary, and very rarely if ever special. So to combat this problem many people have begun to turn to alternative medicinal practices, and self hypnosis for confidence boosting is one of them. In this article we’ll discuss the basis of a lack of self confidence as well as a few techniques you can use to employ hypnosis for confidence building.

First off I think I think the best place to start a discussion about hypnosis for confidence is with why someone would lack confidence in themselves in the first place. It seems that most people who suffer from a lack of self confidence really have a fear of embarrassment, or of scrutiny by others. In fact, psychiatrists often deem anxiety and self consciousness as a defence mechanism that allows the individual to avoid feeling vulnerable in certain situations.

Vulnerability is a terrifying feeling for most as it often leaves you feeling naked and inadequate. The truth though is that everyone feels it at some point in their lives, so if it’s your time then the people around you will definitely be able to relate. If you’re still feeling anxious even after hearing this knowledge then we’ll move on to the hypnosis for confidence building techniques that’ll be like icing on the cake.

The first method you can try when using hypnosis for confidence building is to find a nice quite place and just watch your breath. You’ll soon find that it’s very difficult to concentrate solely on one thing, and your mind will be bombarded with an array of random thoughts. The trick here is to acknowledge that you’re having the thoughts and then let them go, don’t pursue them any further. If you practice this technique for 15 minutes to a half an hour each day you’ll quickly find that when negative self talk arises in situations where you’re feeling vulnerable, you’ll be much more likely to stay grounded and on task.

If this isn’t enough then you can take this technique one step further and move into a visualization. There are two types of visualizations you can use when practicing hypnosis for confidence building, negative and positive. An example of a negative visualization would be to put yourself in a situation where you would typically feel vulnerable. You want to feel the vulnerability as much as possible so that you desensitize yourself to it.

The other possibility for a visualization when practicing hypnosis for confidence building is the positive visualization. This is basically when you visualize yourself doing an act that would usually make you feel unconfident but instead see yourself as a pillar of confidence. Try your best to feel how good it would feel inside if you were to face your fears and get confident in situations where you would typically feel vulnerable and unconfident. This will help you to muster up the courage to face those sorts of situations and leave you feeling much better about yourself.

These are just a few of the numerous methods you can employ to use hypnosis for confidence building. If you feel like you need more then there are plenty of programs out there that teach a myriad of other hypnosis for confidence building techniques. A quick web search or a trip to the local bookstore is sure to turn up numerous results.

The reason why hypnosis for addiction is so effective is that it tackles addiction at its root; negative thought patterns. In this article we’ll go over the basis for those negative thoughts and then discuss some ways you can use hypnosis for addiction to conquer them.

So what is addiction anyway? Lots of people are addicted to television and coffee, how come they aren’t considered addicts? Well, those sorts of addictions may be detrimental in some ways but they are in no way comparable to the effects of smoking, alcohol, and substance abuse. Though coffee may be just as addictive as smoking, coffee related deaths are far less then smoking, so it’s clear why one is socially accepted and the other frowned upon. But if you’re looking to cut down your coffee consumption then hypnosis for addiction would also work for you.

The best way to go about a discussion on hypnosis for addiction is by example, so we’re going to use smoking. The reason people have such a tough time quitting is because they get unbearable cravings. This is where the hypnosis comes in. First off you’ve got to gain control over your mental processes. So find a place that’s comfortable and free from distractions and close your eyes.

What we’re going to do is watch the breath. You’ll quickly find that you have a million thoughts surging through your head in just about every minute of the day. What I want you to do is acknowledge that the thoughts are there and then let them go, don’t pursue them any further. You’re bound to have the thought of a smoke pop into your head at some point, so do the same for this. Mastery over this step is a crucial aspect of conquering addiction.

If you stay determined and practice the preceding step everyday you’re sure to see improvement in your concentration and overall well being, plus you’ll have better control over yourself when craving arise. An important point to remember is that a craving will only last at most for 8 minutes. This means that if you can find something to distract your attention for about 8 minutes, you’ll no longer have the craving for a smoke. The next step in using hypnosis for addiction is to use a visualization.

Once you’re in your relaxed state and you’ve been counting your breath for quite some time, you’re ready to call up a visualization. You can take two routes with this step, either a positive or a negative visualization. An example of a positive visualization would be to see how happy you and your family would be if you were to conquer your addiction. A negative visualization would be to picture all the possibilities for yourself if you were to continue down the path that you’re heading. The visualization used in conjunction with gaining control over your mind is what makes hypnosis for addiction so effective.

Using hypnosis for addiction can literally be that simple. Of course, it’s not going to happen overnight so you’ve got to stay determined and remember to give yourself credit for trying to conquer your bad habits. Hypnosis for addiction mixed with the will to succeed and a lot of determination will surely result in the demise of whatever habit you’re trying to kick.

Unfortunately this sort of life style has led to an increase in overall stress for individuals as well as stress related diseases and deaths.
The first thing you’ve got to practice if you want to use hypnosis for relaxation is clearing your mind of thoughts. This may sound simple but you’ll quickly find that when you try not to think of anything for some reason your mind decides to throw a thousand different thoughts at you. The best way to begin counteracting this is to go to a place that you find comfortable and that’s free of distractions.

Once you’re comfortable shut your eyes and begin to pay attention to your breathing. Count how many breaths you can take before a new thought pops into your head. Each time a thought protrudes acknowledge it and then let it go, don’t pursue it any further. In the beginning of using hypnosis for relaxation you won’t be able to go very long between thoughts, but with practice they’ll become few and far between.

Once you feel somewhat relaxed and your thoughts are in order you’re ready to move onto a visualization. The best way to go about this step of hypnosis for relaxation is to have a place pre-planned that you’d like to visit once you enter the trance. If you seek deep relaxation then maybe you’ll want to go to an island of your own creation or an old camping spot from your childhood. The choice is up to you, just remember that you want it to be free of distractions and worldly thoughts, so try not to let concerns about work or home permeate your mental continuum.

So once you’ve decided on a visualization it’s time to put it into practice. For this step your goal is to feel totally relaxed and bring about a sense of well being. For the island example you could imagine being all by yourself fishing on a crystal clear lake and then suddenly you get a bite. Perhaps the fish puts up a good fight but you finally reel it in and get it on the boat. You then proceed back to the island where you cook it up and have a fabulous fish dinner. Do whatever you like, hypnosis for relaxation is about letting yourself go, so don’t be afraid to do what it takes to make yourself feel relaxed.

One of the reasons why hypnosis relaxation works so well to reduce stress is that it allows you to get away from the many things that are tying you down here in this life and stressing you out. You’ll be amazed once you get the hang of it because the feelings are just as real as if you were actually on an island doing it. You’ll literally be able to go anywhere in the world without ever leaving your living room.

Hypnosis brings relaxation it is literally that simple. The beauty of it is that you don’t have to stop there. Though visualizations are great, there are many more forms of self hypnosis you can use to attain a state of deep relaxation. There are many courses out on the market today that can teach you these more advanced techniques for relaxation. A quick internet search or a check of your local bookstore is sure to turn up more valuable information that can lead to the attainment of liberation through relaxation.

Hypnosis is a great way to battle many different problems including addiction, anxiety, and even obsessive compulsive disorder. One of the first questions that usually comes up when talking about hypnosis is how to hypnotize someone. The truth is that it’s very easy to put a willing person into hypnosis, even if you’ve never hypnotized someone with the progressive relaxation induction before.

Putting someone into trance is very simple, but it can take years to perfect the art of giving effective suggestion to the unconscious mind. In this article we’ll go over the basics of how to hypnotize someone with the progressive relaxation induction as well as discuss other applications of the techniques.

First off it’s important to realize that it’s very difficult to hypnotize someone if they don’t want to be hypnotized or don’t believe that it works. As a beginner learning how to hypnotize, it’s best to practice on people who are open minded and would genuinely like to experience hypnosis. Once you’ve found a willing subject then you’re ready to move onto the techniques.

Most Effective Method For Learning How To Hypnotize Someone

The most effective route to take when learning how to put someone in a trance for the first time is the progressive relaxation technique. This is the method that you’re probably most familiar with as it’s usually the one portrayed on television and in the movies. The first thing you want to ensure is that you and your subject are in a comfortable room with as few external distractions as possible.

Have the subject lie down or sit in a comfortable position so that they’re completely relaxed. When learning to hypnotize, focus on talking with a soothing voice and pay attention to your tempo (if you want the person to relax, speak slower). The trick is for the subject to feel completely comfortable with your voice and the suggestions that you’re giving for them to relax.

As the subject becomes more relaxed you want to direct their attention to different parts of their body and have them deeply relax each in order. You start with their toes and move up their body, one part at a time. Up the front, over the top, down the back, and repeat.

This is one of the most crucial steps when learning how to place someone in a deep trance as it helps the subject to relax but also takes their mind off the fact that they’re being hypnotized. It will likely be an integral part of them entering a state of waken sleep so you must persist with this step until they go unconscious.

The next step to hypnotize someone even deeper is to say “Now that you’re relaxed I want you to bring your attention to your breathing and take a deep breath and as you let it out begin to feel yourself relax even more. And I want you to concentrate on each inhale and each exhale as you let yourself sink even deeper into a trance.”

In order for the subject to be completely relaxed though you have to be relaxed. So pay attention to your own relaxation and breathing. If you can put yourself into a trance the other person is almost always going to follow. How you say the words is as important as what you’re saying.

It may take as little as 5 minutes for your subject to enter a state of deep relaxation but will likely take a bit more. Cycle through relaxing the subject’s body until you see them relaxing, breathing deeper and more rhythmically. Once they’re in the desired state it’s time to work on the problem, let’s say it’s addiction to smoking. The key when learning to hypnotize is to allow the subject to figure the problem out for themselves. You’ll likely have to direct the person’s thoughts but in the end you want them to come to their own conclusion that smoking is just a bad habit, and that it does much more harm than good. Once the subject has reached a conclusion you can use the traditional technique to awake them from their sleep by counting back from 10. The final goal is for the person to find a desired solution in their subconscious mind so that the desire to smoke is greatly lessened.

Learning how to hypnotize someone is that simple

Once you’ve mastered this technique then you can move on to more advanced methods but this is the best place to start when learning how to hypnotize someone. Remember hypnosis is a skill and the more you practice the better results you’ll get.

Many health problems begin with emotional and physical stress, so it is important to relax as often as possible. Here are 5 simple ways that anyone can use to relax throughout the day:

While you are driving turn off the radio and focus on your breath. It is so easy to waste the time we spend in the car listening to the radio or getting frustrated by the traffic instead use that time to make yourself feel better.

When you are working on the computer occasionally bring your attention to your shoulders and relax them as you take a deep breath. A sign saying relax somewhere on your monitor will help you to remember to do this.

During the day choose a moment when you aren’t busy and close your eyes as tightly as you can and then relax them completely. This is a good way to wring out all the tension from your eyes.

While you are sitting on the sofa take a moment and exhale all the air out of your lungs and then take a deep breath in and hold it for about 10 seconds then exhale. Do this 3 times.

While you are lying in bed do a progressive relaxation. Start by relaxing your toes and move all the way up through your legs and into your chest relaxing all the different muscles as you go until you get to the top of your head. Repeat as necessary.

You will find that the more you do these things the better you will feel, and your stress levels will quickly diminish. Relaxation is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself because it will affect every area of your life for the better.

The health risks for smoking are numerous, and most are life-threatening. Smoking kills more people each year than any other preventable factor. Still, one in every four Americans smokes. Unfortunately, their second-hand smoke kills thousands of additional people each year, people who never smoked a cigarette. Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals. Forty three of these chemicals are known to cause cancer and over 400 of them are known toxins.

Aside from raising a person’s risk of lung cancer by over 90%, other cancers are more common in smokers than in non-smokers. Cancers of the bladder, esophagus, kidneys, pancreas and cervix occur much more frequently in smokers. Mouth cancer is also more common in smokers, usually beginning under the tongue or around the lips. The amount a person smokes and how long they smoke play a part in increasing the risk for these cancers.

Over 80 percent of people who develop COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) are smokers. COPD is a combination of diseases, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. It usually onsets between the ages of 35 and 45 in smokers, rather than in old age. The lung function deteriorates, making it difficult to breathe. Death from COPD is death by asphyxiation.

Smoking also causes high blood pressure. While high blood pressure (hypertension) is not a disease in itself, it causes many serious problems and diseases. Hypertension leads to damage in the arteries, heart disease, brain damage, kidney damage, eye damage, sexual dysfunction, bone loss, insomnia, stroke, heart attack and complications during pregnancy. The health risks for smoking exist in every cell of the body.

Smoking also leads to heart disease. This is the number one cause of death among smokers, even surpassing lung cancer. The arteries harden in smokers much as they do in an obese person. If you smoke and are overweight, your risk of heart disease is astronomical, based on your BMI (body mass index), the amount you smoke and how many years you have smoked. The only way to regain your health is by quitting smoking.

Quitting smoking is not easy. It takes a high level of commitment. People are much more likely to quit and stay away from cigarettes for good when they have a support system in place. A good place to start is at your doctor’s office. Get a physical exam and find out what your accurate weight and vital signs are. This will give you a good comparison to check a few months after you quit, a year after you quit and again five years after you quit.

After getting a good physical exam, make a plan for quitting and set a date. Get your family and friends behind you so that you have some cheerleaders. Being accountable to other people helps you stay strong when you feel very weak. There are many options for people who want to quit, including electronic cigarettes, nicotine patches and gum, hypnosis and counseling. Different options work better for different people. If your cravings are more mental than physical, consider this when developing your quit smoking plan.

The health risks for smoking are serious, but they are preventable. The incredibly sad part is that thousands of people die each year of heart disease, lung cancer, COPD and other health problems that are completely preventable. Life is a complicated and dangerous game. Eliminating the negatives leaves more room in your life for positive things. Consider how wonderful your relationships can be when you are not stepping away from the action every 20 minutes for a cigarette. Time, money and life: this is what is saved by quitting smoking for good.

Overeating and a lack of exercise are primarily cited as the causes of obesity, but since such large numbers of Americans are suffering from it, researchers are delving into other possible causes of the disease. Genetics is probably one factor, and poverty and obesity have been linked in some studies. But these two factors are difficult to control, and researchers want to find causes that we may have some control over. The International Journal of Obesity recently listed ten more possible causes of obesity from a study by David B. Allison, PhD at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

1. Sleep deprivation is often linked to obesity. Sleep is an important time for the body to heal and rejuvenate itself. In the absence of sleep, both the body and the brain can go a little haywire. If you are trying to lose weight, make sure you are getting at least 7 good hours of sleep each night. Eight hours is even better. If you are unable to sleep, see your doctor for possible causes and treatments. Many people have had success with hypnotherapy.

2. Pollution may be a cause of obesity. Hormones control how much we weigh, and pollution affects the body’s critical hormones. Avoiding drive-through windows may help your weight loss goals in more ways than one. Aside from missing the 2,000 calorie Mega Combo, you may also dodge exhaust fumes that contain harmful pollutants that lead to obesity.

3. Temperature control feels wonderful, but until recently people’s bodies expended a lot of energy keeping us warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Now that are bodies no longer need to use energy for temperature control, those unburned calories may be turning into fat on our stomachs, thighs and arms. Setting your thermostat a few degrees closer to the outside temperature helps burn a few calories, lowers your power bill, and is even good for the environment.

4. Quitting smoking is a leading cause of weight gain in adults. While the harmful effects of smoking are widely known, many of the problems you are trying to avoid in the cigarettes may come back to haunt you in extra fat. Obesity is not related to lung cancer, but it is responsible for some other forms of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke and other diseases. After you kick the smoking habit, make some effort to get your weight off. If you had the willpower to kick nicotine, a few burgers and fries is no match for you.

5. A number of common prescription drugs list weight gain as a side effect. Anti-depressants, blood pressure medications and even birth control pills can cause weight gain. As people turn to these medications, we see obesity rising. While many of these drugs are absolutely necessary, use caution when you are prescribed new drugs. If you are taking a medication that causes weight gain, take steps to counteract it with a good, healthy diet and regular exercise.

6. As we age, we lose muscle mass. Less muscle mass means that the same person uses fewer calories during the same time period, doing the same activities. It hardly seems fair, but one of the causes of obesity might be our birthdays. Aging adults that add physical activities into their daily routines, such as walking, swimming or bike riding, can help keep good muscle tone and mass, burning more calories each day and warding off obesity.

7. The age of our mothers may play a part in our tendency to be obese. Some studies indicate that the older a mother is when her baby is born, the more likely the baby is to grow up to be obese. Since women are encouraged to pursue their education and careers just as men always have been, women are giving birth at higher ages. While we cannot do much about how old our mothers are, the information can be handy for women who are considering family planning in the future.

8. Family lifestyles play a part in our weight. Families that have behavioral factors that lead to obesity tend to pass their habits down through the generations. One example of this can be seen in the Deep South where frying foods is such an integral part of their culinary style. Generations that farmed outdoors several months of the year burned off calories that today’s TV and Internet generation store as fat.

9. Obese people may actually be more fertile than thin people. If this is true, then it makes sense that obese people would have more children; therefore more of the population carries the gene for obesity. This is not a proven fact, but it is definitely something researchers are looking into.

10. Obese people tend to find obese partners. As in number 9, it is easy to see how this could lead to the production of more obese people in the population.

While the causes of obesity are still not fully known and understood, there are things we can do to lose weight and become healthier people, no matter how we got fat in the first place. A good diet and exercise routine works for the vast majority of obese people trying to lose weight. Staying motivated by joining a support group, taking part in hypnotherapy sessions or simply setting realistic goals to achieve helps people who are trying to lose weight.

High blood pressure is known as the Silent Killer. Also called hypertension, the dangers of high blood pressure are numerous. One of the greatest dangers is being left untreated for many years with no signs or symptoms as it gradually does irreparable damage to the body. A great number of Americans can control their blood pressure using no medication if they simply reduce their salt intake. However, combined with other factors, such as obesity or smoking, high blood pressure is a risk indicator of more serious conditions.

High blood pressure damages the arteries over time. The high pressure of the blood flow damages arteries that are necessary for transporting oxygen and other nutrients to the cells of the body. One type of damage high blood pressure causes is called arteriosclerosis, also known as hardening of the arteries. This leads to heart problems, kidney problems, peripheral arterial disease, eye damage and aneurysm.

The heart is in danger due to high blood pressure. High blood pressure can lead to coronary artery disease, an enlarged left heart and even heart failure. The pressure on the heart to pump the blood, along with the damage that hardened arteries cause, stresses the heart over time causing serious injury and even death.

Hypertension also leads to brain damage. Every cell in the body needs the nutrients supplied by the blood through the arteries and veins of the body. The brain is susceptible to the effects of high blood pressure, loosing vital oxygen and other nutrients supplied by the blood. Strokes, impaired mental function and dementia can all be caused by hypertension.

Kidneys need a healthy blood supply in order to rid the body of extra fluid and other waste products. High blood pressure can damage the kidneys, causing scarring and eventual kidney failure. Diabetes is another stress to the kidneys, and patients with diabetes and high blood pressure have a very high risk of permanent kidney damage.

The dangers of high blood pressure and diabetes are particularly high for overweight people and smokers. Losing weight and quitting smoking are the two best things you can do for your health. A healthy balanced diet, good regular exercise, counseling, hypnosis and group therapy are helpful for overweight patients and smokers who need to adopt better lifestyles for good health.

High blood pressure can also lead to damage of the eyes. Excessive blood pressure puts stress on the delicate vessels of the eye. It also leads to the buildup of fluid behind the retina and damage to the nerves in the eyes. Diabetes also increases the risk of eye problems in patients with high blood pressure.

Both men and women can experience mild or severe sexual dysfunction due to high blood pressure. The pressure damages delicate veins and vessels necessary to maintain an erection or experience sustained sexual arousal. Often blamed on age, menopause or other factors, high blood pressure silently destroys the sex lives of many couples who go undiagnosed.

High blood pressure raises the level of calcium in urine. As the calcium is washed out of the body, bone loss occurs. This leads to osteoporosis and broken bones. Broken bones also increase the probability of developing arthritis.

About half the people who have high blood pressure also have trouble sleeping. The condition is called obstructive sleep apnea, and one of the signs is severe snoring. The loss of sleep due to sleep apnea in turn raises the blood pressure even higher.

High blood pressure can also lead to a stroke. The amount of damage caused by a stroke depends on how large it was and where it occurred in the brain; but paralysis, trouble speaking, loss of sensation and even death can result from a stroke. People who have had a stroke are at an increased risk of having another one.

Hypertension can also cause seizures in pregnant women. This is called preeclampsia or eclampsia. These conditions are serious, and are potentially fatal to both the woman and the unborn child.

Diagnosing and treating high blood pressure early is critical for preventing these conditions. If diagnosed, first, cut back on your salt intake. This lowers blood pressure automatically, and for many patients no other treatment is necessary. Second, reduce the amount of stress in your life. Learn to manage stress through counseling, meditation, exercise, breathing exercises or hypnosis. Medication is available to treat severe high blood pressure that is unresponsive to diet, exercise and quitting smoking.

What happens when you quit smoking? Well, a number of positive things begin to happen. But smokers are rarely aware of this, because the withdrawal symptoms are so severe. What we do not feel is our blood pressures, nervous systems, heart function and lung function returning to normal. What we do feel is irritability, nervousness, anger, headaches and a host of other negative feelings and emotions.

One of the things people dread most about quitting is the weight gain. People tend to gain weight after quitting smoking, because they are trying to find something for their hands and mouths to do in the absence of holding and puffing cigarettes. This is a purely mental event, and has nothing at all to do with the physical addiction to cigarettes. Many people find hypnosis to be beneficial in helping them quit smoking without putting on unhealthy weight.

People who are trying to quit smoking also lose sleep. This is one of the physical withdrawal symptoms of quitting smoking, but it also has psychological reasons. Smokers find it difficult to relax without a cigarette, and it is hard for their mind to let go of problems in the absence of a cigarette. It is important to find non-addictive ways to get the sleep you need. Lack of sleep itself causes health problems.

Nervousness is another problem for people trying to kick the habit. This is closely related to losing sleep. The reasons are both psychological and physical. Since their primary method of relaxing has involved smoking cigarettes, it is important to find new, non-addictive ways to unwind and relax. Many people find success in hypnosis, meditation, a new hobby, walking, other exercise programs or learning a new skill they have always wanted to master.

What happens when you quit smoking? Mood swings. People trying to quit are often so irritable that the very family members who urged them to quit in the first place are ready to buy them a pack and light one up for them. Short temper, anger and even aggression are all common in people who are trying to quit smoking. Try to realize that this is just a physical and psychological withdrawal symptom and your family really is not trying to drive you over the edge.

The good news is, there are ways to avoid some of the misery, and during this difficult process, some really wonderful things are happening in your body as a result of quitting. Finding positive things to do with the time and money you are not spending on cigarettes helps negate some of the suffering. You also need to focus on the fantastic healing process that your body is accomplishing ñ in a mere 20 minutes after you quit smoking!

In 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your blood pressure is already lower. Your carbon monoxide levels return to normal after only 8 hours, just one shift at work. You are at a lower risk of having a heart attack after going just one day without a cigarette. In only two days, you can smell and taste better because the damaged nerve endings begin to heal.

After only a couple of months, you can breathe better, exercise easier without becoming winded and you have less phlegm. Lung function begins slowly improving, as well. After one year without a cigarette, you have reduced your risk of heart attack and heart disease by one half. In as little as five years, your risk of a stroke is that of a non-smoker.

After ten years, your risk of lung cancer drops significantly, though you will never be as low-risk for lung cancer as someone who never smoked. After fifteen years, your risk of heart disease or heart attack is the same as a person who never smoked a single cigarette.

So, what happens when you quit smoking? Some unpleasant things that you can manage, and some really wonderful things that will benefit you the rest of your (longer) life.

Just a motivator for you smokers:

Are you a scriptnotist? I was. What do I mean by scriptnotist? I’m talking about someone who reads the same inductions and suggestions to every client that walks in the door. Sure I used to switch up the suggestions depending on what they wanted, but I would usually read the same induction to each person and then follow that up with the same suggestions that I read to the previous clients that were looking for the same results.

When I realized maybe I should try something a little different. I remember one time I was working with a lady who had Multiple Sclerosis who wanted to lose weight and control pain. At that time I had been in my office for about 2 months and wasn’t what you would call an expert. So, we talked for a little while and I had her sit in the chair where I was going to hypnotize her. I had my script in front of me and began reading her a mountain side induction (basically walking down a mountain path noticing all the different sights) after I relaxed her with that I moved onto a stair induction (climbing down the stairs relaxing with each step, etc.) and after that I went in to my suggestions.

I remember feeling like I was doing well, so when I brought her out I asked her how it felt. The first thing she said was that it was nice, but she didn’t like the inductions because she has difficulty walking and so as she imagined these different things she was also imagining the discomfort of walking along mountains and down stairs. I still feel a little silly when I think back on this because it was so obvious, but I totally missed it. From that day on I made it a point to move away from the script and to tailor my work for each individual person, and I can tell you that it has improved my results and my enjoyment tremendously.

So how do you move away from scripts?

The biggest advantage of using unscripted inductions is that the focus is completely on the client. Rather than reading an induction and having no idea how the client is responding, unscripted inductions give you the opportunity to direct your client more effectively because you are commenting specifically on what they are doing. The client quickly becomes aware that you are looking for certain responses and will become much more likely to perform them now. Dave Elman and Milton Erickson are two great people to study when you want to move away from scripted inductions. Let’s begin with Dave Elman because I believe he offers the easiest and fastest way to hypnotize anyone who wants to be. The Elman induction is scripted in the sense that it is the same every time, but the difference is that you only move on to the next part after you have gotten the response that you want. By using this induction you eliminate any question of if the client is in hypnosis or not.

Milton Ericikson was the king of unscripted hypnosis, he would put people into trance just by having a conversation with them. The benefit of this method is that you avoid a clients resistance if there is any. The challenge with this method is that you have to be keenly aware of very slight trance responses in the subject as you are speaking because he didn’t use the overt tests that Elman would use.

Even if you want to read suggestion scripts after the induction, you will find that your results will improve by using unscripted inductions because you will put your clients into deeper states.

One of the easiest ways to increase the results of your hypnosis sessions is to have a thorough understanding of what I call Hypnotic Psychology. This is very important because the majority of people that you come in contact with have a very limited understanding of psychology and what is worse is that it is usually derived from Freudian Psychology! These unconscious beliefs they have about what is going on in their own minds accounts for much of the difficulties people experience when they set about to make changes in their behaviors.

Freudian psychology’s influence can be seen throughout our society when trying to explain what goes on in our mind. The important difference is that as a hypnotist you are not interested in focusing on and theorizing about every problem that can exist in a human. Instead, you are interested in finding the quickest way to help your client create change that will help them improve their quality of life.

Hypnotic Psychology begins with separating the mind into two parts; the conscious and unconscious mind. The conscious mind is the part that is aware of what is happening while you are in a normal waking state. It hears the sounds around you, it sees the words you are reading on the screen, and feels the seat that you are sitting on right now. The conscious mind is the part of you that distinguishes between good and bad, healthy and unhealthy, basically it is the part that rationalizes.

The unconscious mind is in charge of everything else. It keeps you sitting up in your seat, regulates the temperature of your body, and gives meaning to the symbols that you are reading on the screen. Basically, the unconscious mind runs the show. Once a behavior is learned really well it drops into the unconscious mind and runs automatically when needed. Some examples of this are reading and writing, driving a car, learning how to use a computer mouse, etc. Imagine if you had to start everyday relearning how to do all these things.

It is important to realize that the unconscious mind is very much like a child, it doesn’t know the difference between good and bad. It basically operates through repetition and association. This explains the common frustration experienced by people when they want to make a change in their behavior. How many times have you heard someone say I know smoking is bad, I know I should quit and then go and smoke a cigarette. Hypnotic psychology says that whenever there is disagreement between the conscious and unconscious mind, the unconscious will always win. This is because the unconscious has considerably more resources. The unconscious is like a supercomputer and the conscious mind is like a calculator. It is no contest.

The unconscious mind does not “think”, it basically responds. When I ask you what your phone number is you don’t have to think about it, it just pops into your mind. This is an important aspect of the unconscious mind it doesn’t rationalize like the conscious mind, it works by association. Let me give you another example of this, have you ever heard a song that brought back a certain memory? You didn’t have to think of that memory; it just popped into your mind. That is how the unconscious works. It has connections between things. So, when you set out to help a client create change it is most effective to go directly to the unconscious mind with the correct understanding of how it works. The unconscious does not rationalize, so it has no sense of right and wrong. It only has connections. This is important because it allows you to take the judgments out of any behaviors that you see. If you look at someone who is a crack addict, it is easy to say “Why would they want to do that to themselves?”, but that won’t help you change their behavior. The hypnotists’ presupposition is that people make the best choices they can, so although they may have a connection that crack is bad for them, the stronger connection is that the crack creates ecstasy right away, eliminates the pain, makes all their troubles go away for a little while, etc. So if you are going to help this person create change you need to do it by developing new connections that are going to provide those feelings for them. Quitting cold turkey usually doesn’t work because the brain doesn’t see it as stopping crack use, it sees it as not be able to experience those desired states that crack is connected too. When you approach it this way it is implicit that crack is only one way to experience those desired states, when this is accepted the client will be a more willing participant in the change because there is the possibility to continue experiencing the desired states in a better way than using crack.

The conscious mind is like the captain of a ship. It sets the course and makes the big decisions, but then it leaves the grunt work up to the crew, this is similar to the mind. The unconscious mind is a servo mechanism designed to carry out orders, and the conscious mind is designed to give the orders. But trying to create change solely with the conscious mind is like the captain of a ship trying to do everyone’s job. It becomes a disaster for everyone involved. Unfortunately this is how the majority of people attempt to make change in their own lives. Think about it when someone wants to stop smoking they rarely say okay now what feelings are my unconscious mind after and what are some alternatives that would be better for me. Instead they say “that’s it, I’m just gonna quit smoking” and then maybe that works until the first stressful thing happens and they’re right back to smoking because they don’t have any way to relax other than the cigarette, and their unconscious goes “well I know the smoking is bad, but the stress is even worse, so I think I’ll smoke.”

So, with these understandings the hypnotist generates change by using a different approach than psychoanalysis, pharmaceuticals, or by sheer will power. The hypnotist creates change easily by directly accessing the unconscious mind to get to the root of the problem behaviors. When this happens change is much more likely because it is no longer a change in the feelings you experience, but a change in the way that you create those feelings.

The beauty of it is that it can be used to treat just about any ailment including obsessive compulsive disorder, fears, and even anxiety. In addition, there’s a growing audience of people who are using it to get focused and to improve their performance in many different aspects of life. In this article we’ll discuss the basics of how to do self hypnosis, giving you the opportunity to find out for yourself why so many people find it to be an effective tool with numerous applications.

The first and probably most important step is to find a place that’s comfortable and free of distractions. You may want to use your bed but the key is to enter a deep state of relaxation, not to fall asleep; so perhaps a couch would be more conducive for practicing this technique. Once you’ve found a comfortable spot you’re ready to move onto the actual theory behind how to do self hypnosis.

Basically what you want to do is enter a state of deep relaxation. This can’t be done if you’re feeling anxious or are worrying about mowing the lawn or what you’re going to have for supper. The best way to get relaxed is to try and keep your thoughts fluid. Each time something pops into your mind recognize that it’s there but leave it at that. For example, you might think “hmm I’m hungry”, but instead of entertaining the thought and thinking about all the things you could eat, recognize that you had it and let it go. This is probably the most difficult step to perfect when learning how to do self hypnosis, but once you master it the results will surely amaze you.

If your mind is clear but you’re not fully relaxed then there are a few more things you can try. A common method to relax when learning how to do self hypnosis is to feel the tension in various parts of your body. For example, you could think about your foot and you’d likely start to feel a tingling sensation in it and possibly feel the blood flowing into it each time your heart beats. Another great method is to pay attention to your breathing and how it feels when you inhale and exhale the breath. When practiced properly these methods are sure to lead you into a state of deep relaxation.

Once relaxed you’re ready to start doing some internal work. Let’s say your problem is that you smoke too much and that you want to quit but just can’t muster up the courage to actually go through with it. One technique you could use when learning how to do self hypnosis is to visualize all the possible negative effects that result from smoking. You could imagine yourself with lung cancer and the pain and suffering you and your family could have to go through as you receive treatment.

Another possibility that many people find effective when learning how to do self hypnosis is to think positive thoughts. In our smoking example you could think of how great it would be to go for a run without feeling short of breath or think of how proud your family would be when you tell them that you’ve finally decided to quit. The possibilities are endless, so get creative and make the process as interesting as possible.

Learning how to do self hypnosis is that easy. If you enjoy this particular technique there are many more out there that can be applied in just about any avenue of life. Remember though that learning how to do self hypnosis can take a lot of time so be patient and give yourself credit for actually making an attempt to fix your troubles.

Habit: NOUN: A recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition
“Sow a thought reap an action. Sow an action reap a habit. Sow a habit reap a character. Sow a character reap a destiny.”

Habits are created in many different ways. You have hundreds of them and use specific ones depending on the situation you are in. When I work with clients it almost always involves either the modification of an existing habit or creation of a new more resourceful habit. The first step in affecting habits is to have a clear understanding of the conscious and unconscious minds (if you haven’t read Basics of Hypnotic Psychology I would strongly urge you to do so).

Changing habits is a combination of science and art. The same basic structure can be applied to everyone, but you make it more powerful by tailoring it individually to your client. The process can be broken down into 3 parts; decision, desired behavior, and congruency.

Decision is the first step and definitely the most important. People come up to me all the time and ask me if I can make them stop smoking. I immediately respond that I can’t make them do anything! The choice is always the clients’. The only thing an ethical hypnotist can ever do is assist a client in reaching their goals, never deciding what those goals are. In order for change to occur their has to be a decision made by the client to want that change to occur. This may seem minor but your results will depend on this.

The easiest way to get the client to decide is to elicit a decision state that they have experienced in the past. Everyone has made a decision in their life where they have never looked back and that is the state you want to maximize effectiveness during the session. This is important because it will eliminate 90% of the perceived habit. Remember the unconscious mind is a servo-mechanism and when you give it orders it is in its nature to follow them. When you have a client who makes a genuine decision to stop smoking they unconsciously send a message to their unconscious mind to find new ways to deal with stress, be social, and relax.

Desired behavior is the next step. It is important to always remember that the unconscious mind which runs the show, only has the ability to think constructively. This means that it cannot understand things that you don’t want. If I tell you not to think of the color blue, what is the first thing that you think of? The color blue, right? This is because you need to think of the color blue first in order to not think about it. So, if someone comes in and says “I don’t want to be overweight anymore”, the first thing you need to do is to get them thinking constructively about what they do want. “How would you like to look? What is your ideal weight?, etc.” When people begin thinking like this they give their unconscious mind a goal to work towards. Understand that if someone says “I do not want to be a smoker” they are literally saying that they perform the action of not wanting to be a smoker, the unconscious understands that as they need to be a smoker in order to accomplish that. The first reframe you need to do with this client is to get them to state constructively what they do want; for example: “I want to be a non-smoker”, “I want to have healthy lungs”, “I want to experience peak physical health and have an athletes stamina” You get the idea. These reframes send completely different signals to the unconscious mind, and will ensure a much better success rate with your clients.

Finally, you need to make sure that the new behavior is going to be congruent with the clients’ personality. Skipping this step is often the reason that the change does not become permanent. It is important to understand that the client has a lot invested in long time habits. So, when your client wants to create new behaviors you need to make sure that they are going to fulfill the secondary gains the original behavior did. Smoking for example is less about nicotine addiction than it is about the secondary gains it creates. For example the stronger reasons for smoking are usually for the feeling of reward, or relaxation, rebellion, etc. When you approach the habit on this level you get to the heart of the behavior. So, rather than trying to change a habit with no thought about the good feelings it creates you go right to the secondary gain and come up with alternative ways to experience this.

Once you have come up with alternative behaviors you must check for congruency. This is important because you want all of the clients’ resources to be helping with this change. So as the client is in trance you ask if there is any part that has a problem with this new behavior, you will often get a yes. At this point you can do some parts therapy which will quickly resolve the issue. Once that specific issue is resolved you ask again if there are any other parts that have a problem until the answer is no.

By using these three steps as a general structure for helping your clients create new habits you will find your results improving. I believe that reading people scripts alone has a limited effect because it is not a collaboration between the hypnotist and client. Using this format will help your client understand themselves a little more and you will find that the changes will last because they played a bigger role in the process than just laying their in trance being read suggestions that may or may not relate to them.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not pulling a Tom Cruise here, but enough’s enough. It makes me wonder how people coped with anything 50 years ago. While I believe that medication has its place, I also believe that our faith in modern medicine has made us forget one our greatest gifts.
What is this gift that we have? It is our ability to influence our bodies through our minds. We are just beginning to rediscover the power we have over our own physical bodies. A scientifically verified example of this power is seen in the “Placebo Effect”. This was discovered when new drugs were being tested. Half the group would get the actual medication and half would get sugar pills. The interesting thing was that a certain percentage of the “placebo group” would show signs of improvements, even though they weren’t given any medicine! This is the power that we possess.

So how can you use this power? Scientists are finding new connections between stress and disease every day. We live in a culture where we are over stimulated constantly through television, the internet, etc. The easiest way to make use of this power we have is to put a few minutes aside with the specific intention of just being quiet and relaxing. When you do this you create fertile ground for health to occur naturally. It doesn’t need to take long or be some complicated meditation. Just the act of being quiet in a quiet place will make you feel better and improve your health.
